About North Shore Music School

North Shore Music School is a Milwaukee-based music academy offering private violin, viola, and cello lessons, both in-home and in-studio. We provide weekly one-on-one instruction tailored to each student's needs, helping them grow in skill, confidence, and musical expression.

Our experienced instructors combine structure with encouragement, making lessons both educational and enjoyable. Whether a beginner or advancing player, students are supported in overcoming challenges, building independence, and developing a lifelong love for music.

Each year, students have the opportunity to perform in our annual recital, celebrating their progress in a positive, professional setting.

  • Violinist / Violist | Suzuki-Trained Educator

    Yuqing Shi is a classically trained violinist and violist with extensive experience as a performer and educator. She pursued her Doctoral degree at the University of Kentucky, Master’s degree from the University of Florida, an Artist Diploma from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor’s degree from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music.

    Specializing in the Suzuki Method, Yuqing is passionate about teaching beginner and young string students, helping them develop strong fundamentals and musical confidence in a supportive environment. She taught Suzuki while serving as an Instructor at the University of Florida in their String Academy. In addition to her Suzuki teaching, she has been an Instructor at the University of Kentucky, University of Florida, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

    In addition to her career in education, she has extensive performance experience with ensembles such as the China National Opera, China National Film Orchestra, Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, West Virginia Symphony, and the Evansville Philharmonic.

  • Cellist | Suzuki-Trained Educator

    Ian Wasserman is an accomplished cellist with a wide range of experience as both an educator and performer. He has taught cello and chamber music at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, the University of Kentucky, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and Brookfield Academy’s Coda Program.

    In addition to his career in education, he has performed with the Charlotte Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Dayton Philharmonic, Midsummers Music and other ensembles across the country.

    Ian has studied with and been mentored by several renowned cellists, including Stefan Kartman, Benjamin Karp, John Sharp, Jeffrey Zeigler, and Peter J. Thomas. Their guidance has helped shape his musical voice and teaching philosophy, which emphasizes clarity, connection, and expressive depth.
